How-to

Pair Elite Suito or KICKR to iPhone in 2 minutes

New Elite Suito or Wahoo KICKR owner? You do not need protocol theory to start. Put the trainer in Bluetooth / FTMS / third-party mode, open zCycle Pad, and scan inside the app — not in iOS Settings → Bluetooth. About two minutes. Optional BLE heart-rate strap on the same phone.

For what FTMS actually is, see What is an FTMS smart trainer app?

Before you scan

  • Wake the trainer. Choose Bluetooth / FTMS / third-party — not a locked first-party-only mode, if it has one.
  • iPhone or iPad with zCycle Pad (iOS 17+). No Android app.
  • Optional: any standard BLE heart-rate strap or armband.
  • Calibration and firmware stay in the maker’s app. zCycle Pad does not calibrate trainers.

Elite Suito steps

Lab-tested path on Elite Suito T (power, cadence, speed, ERG, grade sim). We do not certify every Elite SKU.

  1. Wake the Suito. Set it to Bluetooth / FTMS / third-party app mode (not myETraining-only, if that lock exists).
  2. Open zCycle Pad on iPhone or iPad.
  3. Scan for trainers inside the app. Tap the Suito when it appears.
  4. Confirm live watts / cadence on the ride screen.
  5. If you need spindown or firmware, use Elite’s app — then return here to ride.

Wahoo KICKR steps

Wahoo KICKR is FTMS-expected when the unit advertises FTMS — not a claim that every SKU was lab-tested, and not a SYSTM replacement claim. Lab proof remains Elite Suito T.

  1. Wake the KICKR. Put it in Bluetooth / FTMS / third-party mode so non-Wahoo apps can connect.
  2. Open zCycle Pad on iPhone or iPad.
  3. Scan inside the app — skip Settings → Bluetooth.
  4. Tap the KICKR, then start a free ride or ERG target to confirm control.
  5. Spindown / firmware: Wahoo’s app. Workout cockpit: zCycle Pad.

Add heart rate on the same phone

After the trainer is paired, scan a BLE HR strap as a second sensor. Fair founder claim: keep trainer + BLE HR connected together, then write a complete indoor workout to Apple Health — without the usual “one phone can only hold one of them” pain.

Start ERG or a .zwo

Once sensors are up: open ride, HR zones, ERG, or a structured .zwo. Full product pitch: FTMS trainer app for iPhone.

Local-first files stay on device; starting a ride still needs Plus ($4.99/mo or $39.99/yr), so local-first is not fully offline.

Why not Settings → Bluetooth?

FTMS control is an in-app BLE session. Pairing the trainer in iOS Settings does not give the workout app the Fitness Machine Control Point it needs. Details: What is FTMS.

FAQ

Is there an Android app?

No. zCycle Pad is iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch only.

Does zCycle calibrate the trainer?

No. Use the maker’s app for calibration and firmware. zCycle Pad is the cockpit after setup.

Does every KICKR SKU work?

FTMS-expected when it advertises FTMS. We do not certify every SKU. Lab = Suito T only.

ANT+-only trainers?

Will not pair to iPhone FTMS apps. Need Bluetooth FTMS (many dual-protocol units have both).

Is zCycle the same as ZYCLE hardware?

No. zCycle Pad is an Adam Codes Ltd app. zycle.eu makes trainers. Unrelated; pair a ZYCLE unit only if it speaks FTMS.
