ERG trainer app
ERG mode indoor cycling on iPhone and Android
ERG mode holds a target wattage. You set the number; the smart trainer changes resistance so power stays on target even if cadence drifts. zCycle Pad sends those targets over Bluetooth FTMS from iPhone, iPad, or Android — no laptop, no virtual world.
During a ride you can run free ERG, hold a zone, or follow a structured .zwo workout whose intervals become successive ERG targets. Apple Watch shows the ERG target on your wrist. Resistance rising when cadence drops is normal ERG behavior.
What you need
- An FTMS smart trainer (lab tested: Elite Suito T)
- iPhone or iPad on iOS 17+, or Android 8.0+
- zCycle Plus to start the ride ($4.99/mo or $39.99/yr)
ERG vs grade simulation
ERG is target watts. Grade simulation is slope: the trainer feels like a hill and power is whatever you put out. zCycle Pad supports both on FTMS trainers. Pick ERG for intervals and sweet-spot work; pick slope when you want to ride by feel.
